On Friday, I went down to our state capitol with several of my children for a field trip on how the legislature works and how bills become laws. My eight year-old son was excited, and he had prepared what he thought was the best bill ever. In a mock legislative session, his bill was read in front of the entire group, debated and voted on with amendments. Here is his bill: HB 6667 Title: To Provide Love to Moms. Purpose: To obey God by loving their parents. Section 1: All sons shall give their Mom’s back-rubs after dinner. Section 2: All Moms should like back-rubs. Section 3: All Moms should encourage their sons to give them back–rubs. Section 4: It makes all Moms like their sons. Section 5: All Dads should encourage their sons to give moms back–rubs. Section 6: Back-rubs should be at least four times per week. This law will be enforced six months after date of passage. Penalties include: Tickle torture for son’s who do not obey this law and a fine of cleaning the dishes every night for one week. It was cool to see him in front a large group of kids answering questions about his bill. An amendment was presented to include Dads. The amendment was passed, and the bill passed 28 – 26, some of the Moms voted with the kids to help put it over the top. Now because of my son, all Moms should get back-rubs after dinner, and Dads, too.
