PACME Summit Features Session on External Topics Including Health Care Reform and CME Bias

The Pharmaceutical Alliance for Continuing Medical Education is holding their annual summit in Philadelphia on Thursday May 13th and Friday May 14th at the Sofitel Hotel in Philadelphia.

 

Included in the program is as session on the external landscape moderated by Moderated by Thomas Sullivan, BS, President, Rockpointe Corporation and author of this column.

 

Panelists include Robert Popovian, PharmD, Senior Director, US Public Affairs division, Pfizer; Steven Kawczak, MA, Associate Director of the Center for Continuing Education, Cleveland Clinic ; John Michael O’Brien, PharmD, Executive Director, Responsible Health Institute; Hilary Schmidt, PhD, Assoc VP, Medical Communications, Sanofi-Aventis

 

This panel will address some key concerns identified as critical to improving our perception and the success of our mission including conflict of interest, legislative action, and state and federal government affairs. How issues addressing CME should be addressed throughout your entire enterprise including outside stakeholders.

 

The first two presenters will make a short presentation of their duties, how they interact with each other corporate government affairs and CME departments. We will look at two major issues addressed by supporters and CME providers. The first will focus on the recently passed Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (health care reform) and the second on actual bias across a major teaching institution the Cleveland Clinic.

In addition the Friday lunch time key note address will be delivered by ACRE board member Rafael Fonseca, MD  Getz Family Professor of Cancer Deputy Director, Mayo Clinic Cancer Center Consultant, Professor of Medicine Mayo Clinic, Scottsdale on the Value of CME.
